So, you all know that I am absolutely obsessed with my photography business. Lately I have been considering focusing on 2 types of portrait photography rather than doing everything. I already knew that I wanted to focus more on maternity photo sessions but I had an inkling of a feeling that I also would love boudoir photography so I decided to put out a model call and make it an unforgettable experience for the model that was chosen. So here is a little bit of the process for my model's photo session

First I arranged for Elana Emerson, a graduate of the Make Up Designory, to apply my model's make-up and style her hair. Elana is an amazing make-up artist with plenty of experience under her belt. I requested a soft look for my model with more emphasis on the eyes. Then we discussed loose curls for the hair. Elana remained at the shoot to make sure the model's hair and make-up was always flawless throughout the session.

During the glam process I asked my model a few questions, here's a little bit of that interview:

Q: Before the model call, what were your thoughts on boudoir?

A: My friend and I were talking about it and how now you can be kind of awkward and sexy and do this and thats what I am, and then the same day I saw your model call.

Q: Do you have any fears going into this?

A: Just that I'm going to look super awkward..... I'm going to need a lot of guidance.

Q: What are you looking to get out of this photo session?

A: I think just to show people that after you carry a baby and give birth that your body is still beautiful, no matter what. I carried a freaking miracle... in my body.. for like 10 months and like he's a legit miracle and so I had to give up something, and I have to be okay with that.

***A little back story on my model, she was told that she would never be able to carry a baby past a few weeks due to a condition she has in which her cervix is permanently dilated, and when she found out she was pregnant, she also found out that she was at risk of miscarrying. The miracle was that without medical intervention, her cervix closed on its own for the first time in 6 years, and she delivered a healthy baby 6 months ago.

Here is my model after the glam!!

She brought her own lingerie and jewelry along, and the make-up artist and I took care of the rest. She thought she'd look awkward, but she looks like a pro to me!! You rocked this photo session Kerri!

After the session was completed I emailed Kerri a list of questions regarding her experience, and here are her answers.

Q: How do you feel now that the session is complete?

A: I feel strong. I look at the photos and I don't even recognize the woman in them. Seeing the beauty and grace that was captured leaves me speechless. I honestly cannot put my gratitude into words. I am just in awe of the whole experience.

Q: Was it what you expected?

A: It was what I expected plus some. I did expect the photo shoot to be great and for you to be an amazing photographer, but I didn't expect to be as empowered at the end of it.

Q: Would you recommend doing this to other women? Why or why not?

A: Yes, I already have haha. I know the cost makes some people shy away from the idea but I don't think that we can really put a price on the boost that it gives a woman. It really is an experience that can help reframe the way a woman perceives herself.

Q: Was there any portion of this experience that was not up to your expectations?

A: I honestly can't think of any.

Q: What could make this experience better?

A: Chocolate covered strawberries (just kidding haha). The whole experience was great. I cannot think of anything that could have made it better. But if I do, I will definitely let you know!

I want all women to love and be confident in their body no matter their shape, size, or skin color. This photo session solidified for me that this is the direction I want to take my photography business into and I truly hope that people see the value in this experience.

I'll leave you all with another quote~" One day I decided that I was beautiful and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl."~ Gabourey Sidibe

**sidenote: Kerri is also an amazing writer and she wrote an amazing blog post about her experience during this photo session and you can check that out here:
